Things to do in New York - The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a national war memorial located in Washington, D.C., in a place where George Washington once bade farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary War. The memorial is dedicated to commemorate members of the U.S. armed forces who fought and died in the Vietnam War but who are missing. It was also built to honor “courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty and country” of all who answered the call to serve during the longest war in U.S. history. The memorial itself comprises three separate parts: the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall (most famous), the Three Soldiers statue, and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial. Constructing of the memorial was related to many controversial issues and the place is still enjoys great popularity.
