Things to do in New York - Statue Of Liberty

Known also as “Liberty Enlightening the World”, Statue Of Liberty is one of the most universal symbols of political freedom and democracy and presents a figure of a robed woman holding a lit flame. It was a gift of international friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States. The statue is 151 feet tall (46.02 m), with its foundation reaching altogether 305 feet (92.96 m). It is made of copper and steel. It stands at Liberty Island (the side of the New York Harbor) and welcomes all newcomers, visitors or returning Americans. It became a National Monument on October 15, 1924. Liberty Island is federal property within the territory of the State of New York even though it is closer to New Jersey.
