Things to do in Chicago - Millennium Park
Spread over the 24.5 acres Millennium Park can be described as unprecedented combination of architecture combined with natural landscape design and one of the most ambitious public undertaking in Chicago’s history. The initial elements of this “crowning achievement” were built in 1917 and consisted mostly of narrow strips between the railroad tracks and Michigan Avenue. Later on so called “Lakefront Gardens for the Performing Arts.” were proposed but the scheme lacked the government funding suport.Over time certain part of the park was transformed into a new music venue built withing the area of parking lot and the active tracks. It was thanks to Mayor Richard M. Daley and Frank Gehry that the park owns its present attractive form. Nowadays the park serves to anyone willing to escape from the bustle of the city and take some rest. It provides the visitors with unique sights like the natural Lake Michigan and the man-made street wall of Michigan Avenue. Also its public art and generaldesign make this place to be a must see spot while visiting the city.
