Things to do in Chicago - John Hancock Observatory

Designed by structural engineer Fazlur Khan , this 1,127-foot skyscraper is the sixth-tallest in the country. The 100-story building includes  not only restaurants and offices but also is home to seven hundred condominiums regarded as the highest residences to live in the world. The Hancock Observatory placed at the top of the skyscraper is a comarable alternative to the views offered by Sears Tower. There is a little difference between the two monsters, while The Hancock Center is situated in the commercial district  the Sears Tower occupies the financial district. Special meshed-in area within the building allows the visitors to feel the gusts of wind  as high as 1,030 feet (314 m) above ground level.  Exactly on on the 95th floor, apart from admiring picteresque views of Chicago and Lake Michigan you can simply enjoy dinner. The building is a member of the World Federation of Great Twers. Because of its  distinctive style,  it has  also received multiple  awards  like the Distinguished Architects 25 Year Award in May 1999.

This is an interesting way of  getting to know some  interesting history of the city but also to get outstanding post card views from the boat. Depending on the time of  year there are different  tour options to choose from. Typically, two types of cruises are available:
-    the First Lady – for tourists anxious to exerience informative cruise with focus on Chicago Architecture,
-    the Mercury  - for these tourists that seek regular sightseeing oportunities and entertainment
Leaving at different times throughout the day, it takes  about 60/90/120 minutes for the cruiser to  traverse the lakefront and the river. Both of the rides are relaxing and an attractive way to explore Chicago.

Things to do in Chicago - Museum of Contemporary Art

Situated at 237 East Ontario, The Museum of Contemporary Art was founded in this  former location in 1967. Originally, the establishment intended to promote temporary art, but over time it was decided to display  contemporary art objects created after 1945 as well. Currently, the museum can be regarded as one of the nation’s largest facilities gathering in its collection 2,345 pieces with the emphasis on  minimalism, surrealism and  conceptual photography.  The museum is a regular host of solo exhibitions of prominent artists. The first exhibitions of artists Antoni Tapies (1977) and Frida Kahlo  (1978) took place here.  Within the building’s area, apart from the exhibitions, one can find facilities such as a bookstore, gift store, restaurant, 300-seat theater and a terraced sculpture garden with an impressive view of Lake Michigan.  As  there are many events  like   workshops, lectures and classes going on all the time every visitor  should be able to find   something suitable for him/her. Spread over the 24.5 acres Millennium Park can be described as unprecedented combination of architecture combined with natural landscape design and one of the most ambitious public undertaking in Chicago’s history. The initial elements of this “crowning achievement” were built in 1917 and consisted mostly of narrow strips between the railroad tracks and Michigan Avenue. Later on so called “Lakefront Gardens for the Performing Arts.” were proposed but the scheme lacked the government funding suport.Over time certain part of the park was transformed into a new music venue built withing the area of parking lot and the active tracks. It was thanks to Mayor Richard M. Daley and Frank Gehry that the park owns its present attractive form. Nowadays the park serves to anyone willing to escape from the bustle of the city and take some rest. It provides the visitors with unique sights like the natural Lake Michigan and the man-made street wall of Michigan Avenue. Also its public art and generaldesign make this place to be a must see spot while visiting the city.
